Elvis Aaron[7] Presley (Tupelo, 8 gennaio 1935 – Memphis, 16 agosto 1977) è stato un cantante e attore statunitense.

È stato uno dei più celebri cantanti della storia, fonte di ispirazione per molti musicisti e interpreti di rock and roll e rockabilly,[9] tanto da ottenere l'appellativo di re del rock and roll.[10] È stato soprannominato anche Elvis the Pelvis per un particolare movimento del bacino, appellativo che non apprezzava e che ha definito un'espressione infantile.[11]

Nel corso della sua carriera ha spaziato dal rock and roll (di cui, complice il periodo storico nel quale intraprese la carriera, è solitamente considerato tra i principali artefici) ai generi rhythm and blues, country and western, gospel, spiritual, traditional, melodico e alla musica leggera.[12]

In ventiquattro anni di carriera ha pubblicato 61 album, vendendo oltre un miliardo di dischi in tutto il mondo.[13][14] Nel corso della sua carriera ha visto le sue canzoni approdare più volte nella Top Chart della rivista Billboard.[15] Sul mercato britannico, Presley piazzò ventuno singoli in vetta alle classifiche di vendita, a volte con permanenze di 80 settimane al primo posto. I suoi 45 giri rimasero in classifica per 1277 settimane, mentre i long playing contenenti i brani da lui incisi stazionarono ininterrottamente nella Top 10 dal novembre 1958 al luglio 1964. Eccetto sei concerti tenuti in Canada verso la fine degli anni cinquanta, non si esibì mai fuori degli Stati Uniti.
