To get to Red Reef Park in Boca Raton, FL. There is no cache in this park, so just post a note with a picture from the beach. Extra points if you can get an underwater shot from one of the man-made reefs. Extra extra points if you can get a picture of one of the nurse sharks that call these reefs home.
Or visit one of the nearby caches. Just get a picture from the beach at Red Reef Park, please.
And you can thnk me later for bringing you here. It is truly a treasure of the Florida coast.
Please only place in Premium caches. We are losigin too many trackables out there to newbies who don't know what they found.
I like to take my kids to Red Reef Park in Boca Raton, FL for snorkeling. On one of these trips, we saw a disturbance in the water. It turned out to be fish jumping out of the water to avoid being predating on by a pack of dogfish, I ran down the beach and into the water to get a better look. They were a good 50 yards off the beach and I only waded about 5 yards in, but the lifeguards freaked out, only seeing the dorsal fins and crying, "Shark!" I yelled back, "They're dogfish!". Dogfish are completely harmless to humans. There are no records of them ever attacking humans so I was not worried in the slightest. Was I sure they were dogfish? Absolutely. There were about 5 very evident dorsal fins in the water. Sharks do not typically hunt in packs. Dogfish do, hence their name. I could also see the dark stripes along their sides, further confirming their identity. Just don't get too close. There's a spine in their dorsals that will hurt like heck if you stuck with it.
