Pterry the Pterodactyl wants to visit caches all around the world. He needs to keep moving so he doesn't become extinct, so please don't leave him in a backpack for more than a couple of weeks.
Photos of his adventures would be super.
The original Pterry was an aluminium cachekinz with his trackable code etched onto his back. This second re-launch after the first was lost is a model dinosaur with a Copy Tag and is attached to a small keyring that explains his mission to those cachers who don't have instant internet access out in the woods.
So why Pterry? Well, it goes all the way back to a mis-spent youth of BBC Children's TV playing in the background whilst I did my homework!
Jigsaw was a children’s TV show in the UK between 1979 and 1984. Its hosts were Adrian Hedley and Janet Ellis (who went on to Blue Peter fame, but now is most commonly known as Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Mum!)
The object of the show was to let the viewers determine a six letter word. The letters of the word were given in the form of clues and Janet and Adrian would act out the clues using pictures and sketches. As well as the quiz, Adrian would entertain the viewers with his mime acts whilst Janet tried to get on with some work. From time to time Jigg, a cartoon jigsaw piece, would appear on the screen to reveal information. Other characters included Biggum the Giant, the O-Men, Mr Noseybonk, Cid Sleuth and P-Terry the P-Terodactyl.
Ever since then the silent 'P' has been sounded by my brother and I, even though the origins of the 'joke' faded until I did a little research for this trackable!
So next time we 'grown ups' start bemoaning the dumbing down of children's TV, just remember the call of "Dinner , Dinner, Dinner, Dinner . . . O MEN!" (yes, scary how it all comes back isn't it?)
