Hairy is a critically endangered hairy nose wombat. He wants to travel the world sharing his story. Please take photos of him along his journey and post them!!
There are 3 wombat species. Northern Hairy Nose, Southern Hairy Nose and the Common wombat.
There are only 200 Northern Hairy Nose wombats left in the wild, with none in captivity. They are CRITICALLY endangered. They are found in Epping State Forest, Queensland.
Southern Hairy Nose wombats are on the endangered list also. Thankfully there are peolpe dedicated to the survival of the hairy nose species and our good friends at Safe Haven run a captive breeding program. You can also find Southern in captivity elsewhere in Australia. They are funny creatures, with very disticnt individual personalities. Safe Haven have a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SafehavenAace where you can see videos and stay up to date with what's happening in the world of Hairy Noses!! In the wild Southerns can be found in Western South Australia.
Common wombats, are just that, they are everywhere in the South Eastern corner of Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales.
