The mission for this coin was to get to Ireland - which was accomplished January 19, 2019! How fun to have one make its goal. Now it can bounce around Ireland for a while, or just keep adding miles all around the world. If it eventually gets back to Central Texas, that would be really awesome!! THANKS to all who keep these coins moving.
So many Geocoins go missing, and this was one of those. We decided to send out a proxy to keep this one alive. We DO love to see how far they can travel, but so disappointing when they disappear. We hope you'll keep this proxy coin moving for us.
We won this lovely coin at the Geocoinfest 2009 in Salt Lake City, Utah. It took a little research to understand some of the words and markings on this coin. It is listed as a "Kiss Me I'm Irish" geocoin, hence the multiple sets of lips, ready to be kissed.
There is a unique version of a Celtic Knot on the back. On the front is the phrase "Cead Mile Failte" which means a Hundred Thousand Welcomes. There is also what appears to be a red thistle, an old Celtic symbol. The green/blue figures with the lips around the outside appear to be graphic versions of Ireland's shamrock.
The word Muin, on the back, is from a very ancient alphabet called the Ogham alphabet, representing the equivalent of the modern letter M. This word had several meanings: neck or the upper part of the back, wile or ruse, and love or esteem. The Celtic tree alphabet associates Muin with a vine.
Mr. UTtoTX has ancestors who came to America from Ireland in the 1840s, so we are excited to share this lovely coin with fellow cachers.
