Travel bugs are being simultanously released into the Geocaching.com HQ cache following the block party. Updates on "The Great Geocaching Block Party 2013 Travel Bug Race" will be updated on the official Geocaching.com Blog "Latitude 47".
All Travel Bugs must travel a minimum of 2013 miles before being eligible for prizes.
All Travel Bugs must return to HQ prior to the 2013 Geocaching Block Party to be eligible for prizes.
Me and my daughter have never done any geocaching with bikes before so we thought using bikes during the 2012 Geocaching Block Party (GC38J9N) and the 2.3 mile trip through the Tunnel of Light event (GC3C7HK) the following day would be a great way to get us "moving" (literally) towards a new way of finding caches. The very morning of the Block Party I installed a nice new seat onto my bike and thought that the old seat should live a life of it's own and then keep track of my miles and see which seat travels more miles.
Geo-caching miles with new bike seat:
Aug 18th, 2012: 8.94 miles during the Blockparty event and subsequent caching around Greenlake.
Aug 19th, 2012: 7.32 miles during the Going Ape event.
Aug 25th, 2012: 5.51 miles around Spencer Island.
Sep 22nd, 2012: 5.87 miles around Ebey Slough
Sep 22nd, 2012: 2.37 miles around Frontier Village Lake Stevens
Total distance so far = 30.01 miles.
