Today we received a very special card by regular mail (see first photo). Yesterday was my (Iris) birthday, so the card was exactly in time to be late :-).
In these weird covid-19 times receiving a real birthday card is extra special, it really adds to a positive feel, very welcome now, not just on or after a birthday!
This card came from someone we have never met in real, geocacher sealgairí, all the way from another continent. But with geocaching, even geocachers you've never met are part of one big family, a family that loves the game of geocaching.
A month ago she asked on the geocaching forum if someone could get this trackable back on track in Ireland. The trackable wants to travel the world according to the tag, but got a bit stuck in the US. And although sealgairí had very good intentions and tried to find several ways to get this TB out in the world, it didn't move for quite a while. It is a trackable with a special memory to sealgairí, she found it on her birthday. And that is what geocaching is all about, creating special memories! We have many great geocaching memories and especially with respect to trackables. So when we read the forum post we replied that we can't help it to travel in Ireland (especially now with the pandemic) but we can help it get started on a new adventure, exploring the Netherlands and then Europe! It was about a month before my birthday, a nice coincidence in this story!
But of course with the current situation and everything going on in life, we weren't sure if and when the trackable would arrive. It didn't arrive in time for my birthday, just came in one day too late, so this trackable missed a few great caches we chose to do yesterday to celebrate the special day.
The card is still very fitting (see photo 2) and we're celebrating just a little bit longer now and this trackable can take part in our adjusted festivities! It gives us a good reason to get another (birthday) cake, so we'll be posting some more photos in the upcoming days.
So many (birth)days to enjoy geocaching, let's all stay positive and have some great adventures!
