David Douglas was a famous Scottish botanist who was born at Scone, near Perth in 1799. During his travels in the early 1800's he explored the Scottish Highlands, North America, Hawaii and other parts of the world.
As a result of his field trips he introduced more than 200 new plants to Britain including some of the most important trees in our countryside. Once such tree, the Douglas Fir is named after him and in addition to this he is also responsible for the cultivation of some of the most commonly grown garden plants in Britain today. Tragically he died at age 35 having been gored to death by a wild bull in Hawaii.
This lovely coin is approximately 45mm in diameter and 4.0mm thick and has a smooth edge, etched to indicate that it is loggable on Geocaching.com. The coin finishes are Bronze for the Limited Edition coin and Antique Silver for the regular one.
