Current Goal

Quivit has made it home finally.

A big thank you goes to John SKP who gave Quivit a ride in his mobile home from Indiana straight to our front door in Massachusetts. We may take Quivit someplaces with us, but he won't be leaving our sight for a while.

Thank you to everyone who helped Quivit on his journey. He got a lot more than he ever expected.

About This Item

Quivit

We picked up Quivit, the Musk Ox, at the Fawn Lake cache in Fall 2001 and brought him home for the winter. But, he longed for the adventure of travel. So, we got him a travel bug tag and a log book, and sent him out. He returned home on July 31, 2005 after a journey that took him around the United States and even to Australia and Tasmania.

His mission was : After a lot of planning, his goal is to visit observatories (amateur and professional)

Mainly, his objective was to visit:

  1. Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory south of Tucson, Arizona.   He made it
  2. Lowell Observatory near Flagstaff, Arizona Maybe some other time
  3. Domes to Heaven cache near Williams Bay, Wisconsin where he wants to get Dr. Spyro's autograph and nearby Yerkes Observatory
  4. and then come home to the Minuteman Fitness Cache near Boston, Massachusetts

  • If he goes near any private observatories along the way, he would like to visit them. But, he doesn't want to stray too far from his goal.

    At each observatory he visits, please place a stamp in his logbook, and/or get a momento of his visit (such as a posting a photograph) .

    Please don't leave him in any urban caches. He's heard too many horror stories about them.

    Quivit reminded me that some of his friends might want to know more about the Stellafane convention. Stellafane is held in Springfield Vermont on Breezy Hill. There are demonstrations on mirror making and telescope construction.
    Amateurs give talks about their latest endeavors.

    • clubhouse and turret telescope The Turret telescope and Historic clubhouse is on Breezy Hill and are the main part of the complex.

    Quivit got home just in time to head for Stellafane.
    A gathering of Telescope users and makers. He wanted me to post some pictures he had me take of his time there.
    It was awesome and quite exhausting.

    Thanks goes to John SKP. He made sure Quivit was safe and delivered him home. Quivit loved that ride. He peeked out once in while to see where he was going. He arrived with his neat Souvenir case. Someone went through a lot trouble to put it together. Me and my daughter plan to put together a nice bunch of pictures for all his friends to enjoy. Check back in the next couple weeks. Quivit and family.

    We found Quivit in the Five Medals cache in Indiana. We're here to get some motor home work done. We'll be passing through Massachusetts by August 2nd and will drop him off.

    Since, the Domes to Heaven cache has been archived, Please don't send him in that direction. He wants to get to Eastern Massachusetts before August 4th. The faster the better. Go East he says Go East.
