About This Item

Joseph the micro TB ----

My Grandfather and his older brother came to the United States from a tiny village in France in the early 1900's. They arrived in San Francisco and tried to start a new life. My Grandfather met my Grandmother, started a family and they lived very happy lives. At the start of WW I, my great uncle, left San Francisco and returned to France to fight in the war effort. He lost his life on July 8th, 1915. He died without ever having married, or seeing much of the Country he and his brother had come to live in.

This TB is named Joseph, after my Great Uncle. It’s sole purpose is to travel around the United States and cover as much ground as possible. In short, to see all of the sights the U.S. has to offer, that my great uncle was unable to see. To help him out, I’ve made this TB micro sized. It will fit into most (obviously not all) micro caches, including the ever popular empty film cannister.

So, please move him along. If you have a favorite spot, that would be great, if you have a scenic spot, even better. Please try to keep him away from isolated caches where he might sit for months. Although I personally like those, I don’t think they would be appropriate for this TB. An occasional photo would be appreciated also.

Just now found an old old note showing where I had discovered JOSEPH Geocoin/Travel Bug/Tag way back in 2005 while I was in Wisconsin visiting my family. Sorry for the delay in logging the discovery. Thanks for sharing your item with the geocaching community.

Took Joseph to Madison for the weekend and stopped at a few spots along the way to take pictures of him. First, We went to the Veterans Memeorial in our hometown of Rhinelander to put him next to the World War I listings. Next we stopped at the Korean War Memorial in Plover, WI. We see it all the time from the highway, and now Jo has been with the statues for the Fallen. Finally, We took Joseph to this geocache on Picnic Point on the University of Wisconsin Madison. The view is beautiful, and the place is peacefull too. We know that many people from all over the U.S visit here when in town, and with School starting soon, Odss are good that someone will pick up Joseph to head out in a new direction. This has been a fun experience for our first travel bug.

We planned on taking Joseph to Minneapolis last weekend, but circumstances forced us to reschedule the trip. We had planned on stopping by the large Veteran's Memorial on the Highway going to Minneapolis. Since this didn't work, we will be dropping him the weekend of Aug. 20th instead. In the meantime, I took a couple pictures of Joseph with some items that relate to his story from my collections of "Stuff". I will post the pictures as soon as possible.

  • Joseph with some company Joseph with some French coins dating from 1912 to the present time.
  • Joseph with uniforms Joseph is pictured with French soldiers in the uniforms of World War I, and also a picture of a German soldier in his countries typical uniform.
  • Joseph with Garde De Paris This is Joseph with my steel cuirass and helmet of a soldier in the Civil Guard of the City of Paris at the end of the 19th century. Perhaps he saw these soldiers on horseback if he had been in Paris before the war.

Picked up Joseph the micro without knowing anything about him. What a great story. We will be honored to show him around our area, and take him a little farther on his journey.

Have pondered where a really nice cache would be to place Joseph into. Decided on this one near the Willow Dam. I brought along a first time cacher and her left Joseph in this beautiful place! I hope Joseph the TB has a great journey! It's been my pleasure moving him.

  • Nice place to hang out!! View of the area where we placed Joseph
  • I could stay here for a while too!!

My daughter played in the band that marched in our small town's Memorial Day Parade today. I brought Joseph along and snapped a couple of pictures with my camera phone today. My apologies for the lousy pictures, I am awaiting a battery for my digital camera:-) We had BEAUTIFUL weather in Crandon Wisconsin today for this parade. I figured since your great uncle left the USA to go back to his home country to fight; he would have felt right at home watching us, as we honor our soldiers, fallen and present.

  • Here Come The Veterans! The band is taking up the rear.
  • Little Shops in Crandon, WI A little slice of our downtown.

Picked this one up today! Nice history behind this bug!!

  • Wife and Joseph! Yeah, a travel bug, a tick or two, and a zillion and a half skeeters! I am sure it liked its time spent listening to the river, but we'll usher it off to a new cache soon!
