This is a tough story to tell. It is a tough story to read.
My mom, Lyn R. Briggs was an amazing woman. She had recently graduated nursing school. She had finally found what made her happy, she had found her true passion. She loved helping other people when they were hurting. On November 17th, 2006 in the early evening, as she and a friend were crossing the street on their way to Main Street Cortland, a car sped around the corner and struck both of them. My Mom saw the car comming and was able to push her friend out of the path of certain death, even though she was still struck by the car. My Mom was not able to get herself out of the way and was struck head on. She was able to hang on for a couple more weeks and we lost her on December 2nd, 2006. We later learned that the driver of the car was driving while intoxicated and was WELL over the legal limit. Another fact that we later learned about through media exposure was that the driver was a Training Officer in the local police department. How does a family deal with the knowledge that the people sworn to protect them could cause such harm. My Mom was taken from us way too soon and her journey was not complete. Please help us move this coin. I want to get this coin to my sister in Cortland, The city my Mom lived in also. Let this coin find memories of its own as it moves from cache to cache. Feel free to tell us about the journey it took with you. My Mom loved making new friends.

Wow. I discovered this coin virtually, and am in tears as I type, after having read of it's origin. Your mother was an amazing and beautiful woman. I grieve with you for your loss.................
I believe in justice, but there is no justice to be found here. When I think I have it bad, I will think of this story. With love and sorrow, thanks for sharing.

Went to send a message to the coin owner and discovered this. What a sad yet incredible story. This speaks volumes about the woman your mom is, saving someone else over herself. You truly have an angel looking over you. Thanks for sharing the story.
