About This Item

For years, the Military Airlift Command, better known as MAC, moved people and equipment to practically every country on the earth. Today, it's been renamed Air Mobility Command, but the job is the same. This bug is in honor of all the crew dogs out there, past, present, and future that will get up at ungodly hours, eat greasy burgers for breakfast, and fly around the world in an aluminum tube.

As for me, I logged over 5600 hours in the fabulous Lockheed C-141B Starlifter. I’ve visited more countries than I can list, and a couple I can’t even tell you about. I was a “Fixed Wing Performance Flight Engineer”, the guy that sits sideways behind the co-pilot. My job was to preflight the airplane, compute take-off data (will we run out of runway before rotation?), monitor the aircraft hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, fuel, engines, LOX, pressurization, and air conditioning systems in flight, compute landing data (will we roll off the end of the runway before we can stop?), post-flight inspection, bed-down of the aircraft as well as any minor repairs that we felt capable of doing. Additionally, we had to respond effectively to any in-flight emergencies that may occur. I crewed the Starlifter for over 17 years until they were retired. Today there are very few C-141Bs still flying, and only a handful of C-141Cs. Most are sitting in the desert waiting to be cut up for scrap.

Good luck and Godspeed!

Will take this one inland to a dryer climate. Starting to develop mildew from all the moisture it's been hanging around in.
