I thought this flower coin (1 of 4 in a series) would make a lovely tribute to my uncle Ken. Always a man of the land, he found his most beutiful spot on this earth in the sandy soil of southern Ontario. After putting his efforts into creating Heritage Seeds, he turned to planting and growing to share the final product with others and starting an organic asperagus farm. Needing more, he added an orchard and planted many wonderful vegetables and herbs. He was instrumental in bringing the concept of farm share to Canada and was the recipient of a certificate of appreciation from the Ontario government. Entering his 60s, he had retired with thoughts of time and travel. Sadly that was not the hand he was dealt and was taken from his friends and family far too early. We are gathering this weekend (May 24th 2014), to celebrate his life and to marvel at the beauty he added to the world and the land he fought to preserve for coming generations. He will be missed.
