Current Goal

Seeing as this is a musical item, from a musical cache, then it'd be nice for it to travel via some of the great musical locations around the world...I'm thinking about places like Nashville, New Orleans, Memphis...use your imagination, and please post photographs to the Geocaching.com website if you can.

On the off-chance that anyone who comes into contact with this TB happens to be a musician, and can commit the sound to the TB to record that's be a real bonus!

About This Item

The Meandering Maraca

This Travel Bug is "The Meandering Maraca". It started it's life in a musically-themed cache ("The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Music") in Northumberland, England.

One night I was in a bar in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, when some promotional guys for Barcardi Rum came in, handing out these little maracas to everyone in the pub. I'm sure it seemed like a great idea to them - it's certainly one way to make people aware of the brand. However, I don't think they'd really though about the effects of giving one of these to everyone in a busy bar, on a Saturday night, less than an hour before closing time. It got loud in there….really loud. I don't know how much the bar staff got paid that night, but believe me it wasn't enough.

The Meandering Maraca has been dropped into cache placed on Vysehrad Fortress in Prague.

Vysehrad has been choosed for musical maraca because of its musical history. In the top of the hill there is cemetery where the most known Czech classical composers are graved. For example: Antonin Dvorak and Bedrich Smetana. Smetana is known because of his set of symphonic poems "Ma vlast (My Fatherland)". One "Ma vlast" poem has the name "Vysehrad" according the name of Prague Fortress.

Maraca was found on cache Havranka near Czech/German border. I tried to test the sound of Maraca in pub in Zadov (south of Czech Republic) but without influence on amount of money paid to staff :-))). I will take it propebly to Prague.
