About This Item

Royal Hichhikers

Carl XVI Gustav is on a world tour together with his grandfather Gustav VI Adolf. Their goal is to make it back home to Sweden, visiting as many countries as possible along the way. Pictures from their adventures are most welcome!

Carl XVI Gustav has been the regent of Sweden since 1973 when he acceded the throne upon the death of his grandfather Gustav VI Adolf. Carl Gustav's father, also named Gustav Adolf, was the heir apparent to the throne but was killed in an airplane accident in 1947, less than a year after Carl Gustav's birth.

Actually, this bug is made from two "Krona", the base monetary unit in Sweden. The old coin with Gustav Adolf is from 1963, the oldest still commonly found in circulation. The newer coin with Carl Gustav was minted in 2000, the last year using the original design introduced in 1976.

This travel bug was released on our honeymoon trip through USA visiting CA, AZ, UT, NV, CT, NJ and NY.
