A puzzle for ages 8-99!

Tantrix is a random traveling bug, and we want to know up to how many tiles you can complete!

Little B (pictured doing the puzzle, below) was able to complete all 10 levels in about 25 minutes (but only tried the yellow solution for 10 tiles). How far can you go? Be sure not to lose any tiles, or future players won’t be able to complete the puzzle.

Tantrix, the game of loops!


Puzzle Rules/Directions:

  1. Turn all tiles upside down so that the numbers face up.
  2. Turn over tiles 1, 2, & 3 and make a picture of a connected loop or circle. The color on the BACK of the tile indicates the color of the loop you will be making.
  3. Break up the tiles after creating your loop, add tile 4 and make a new loop. The color on the back of tile 4 indicates the color of the loop you will be making.
  4. The loop can be any shape provided the ends join up and all intersecting colors match up. (i.e.: a blue end cannot connect with a yellow end)
  5. Continue adding one tile at a time and creating loops….if you can!
  6. With less than 10 tiles, only one color of loop is possible to create.
  7. With all 10 tiles, each of the colors has a solution. Can you find them all?

    Puzzle Time Limits:

    How long does each number of tiles typically take to create? You can take as long as you wish, but the Tantrix makers suggest these times:

      3 tiles = 20 seconds,
      4 tiles = 40 secs.,
      5 tiles = 1 min.,
      6 tiles = 3 min.,
      7 tiles = 6 min.,
      8 tiles = 10 min.,
      9 tiles = 20 min.,
      10 tiles (if red) = 25 min.,
      10 tiles (if blue) = 28 min.,
      10 tiles (if yellow) = 30 min.

    Grabbing Loopy Tiles TB, and after trying this game......well my brain feels a bit LOOPY. Thanks for the brain stretching exercises.....I am at seven....still working on it. Will move it along soon.
