Retrieve It from a Cache 8/17/2011 lconlon retrieved it from Geocaching Classics: Mt. Catherine Summit Washington   Visit Log

Today's hike to Mt. Catherine was filled with challenges and surprises. The car ride to the trailhead tested our boulder avoiding driving skills and map reading abilities. Once on the trail we braved fallen giant conifers that required bushwhacking off-trail and following obscure trail markers and rock cairns. The view at the top made it all worthwhile and we spent our time relaxing and marveling at the 360 degree view of mountain peaks and valleys. As our attention turned to tree identification, we spotted a strange green box which we thought might have something to do with radio communication. Upon opening the box, we discovered the holzhammer and began our journey of discovery about geocaching. We are amazed at this travel bug's journey from Germany to B.C. Canada and down into the North Cascades of Washington State. We're now pondering the myriad possibilities of where the holzhammer should travel next. . . around the world with one of our sons, to a friend in another state, or to the ends of the earth with a dad of one of our 5th grade students!

  • Guess what we found? What a surprise! We were not looking for a geocache box, but were investigating the purple pine cones on a spruce tree.

Retrieved Holzhammer from Salmon Salute, in Surrey, B.C., Canada. Nearby in the stream an industrious squirrel was doing something strange with a rock, perhaps attempting to open a nut.

We're glad we recovered this travel bug and were amazed that it's made its way to Western Canada from Europe in just a few weeks!

Grab It (Not from a Cache) 8/24/2010 OhLookABunny! grabbed it   Visit Log

Found this hammer in GCQV61 in Surrey, British Columbia, in Western Canada, just a few kilometres from the coast of the Pacific Ocean! We've logged it as grabbed from the current owner as they only have one cache and TB logged, and it seemed the best way to log it properly.

I'll log it as passing through the cache we found it in. What a journey it must have had from France.
