Current Goal

Please keep this geocoin moving! Khepri will smile on those who help this traveler, but will not be pleased with those who forestall it or try to steal it :-o Remember what happened to poor Benny in "The Mummy"; you wouldn't want that to happen to you!! Discoveries are always acceptable to scarabs :-)

About This Item

The coin

A very colorful design with a strong ancient Egyptian theme. The scarab beetle was venerated by the ancients, and was an early sun diety, called Khepri or Khepera. He was eventually partially supplanted by Ra, but retained significance as the dawning sun. During the New Kingdom of the Ramses Pharoahs (19th and 20th Dynasties, primarily), Khepera was a symbol of rebirth after Earthly death. During the reign of Akhnaten, Ra was promoted as the only god, but the aspects of Khepera, and of Atum or Atun (the setting sun) were retained, in an interesting "foreshadowing" of the trinitarian nature of the Christian God.
