The Heros TB (#307333) went with me to the Carpentersville, IL American Legion (or is that VFW - dang, I always get them confused) yesterday for a meeting with some people there - I am involved in trying to obtain a real M551 Sheridan Airborne Armored Reconaissance Vehicle for a Veteran's Memorial park here in my hometown.
I explained to them about the TB too.
I don't think they really get this geocaching thing, you know what I mean?
Not too many cachers to be found at the average AL or VFW.
    Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks.

Oh, and we also turned over a really battered American Flag to them for proper disposal - I took it away from a redneck several weeks ago who was flying it from the back of his pickup truck.
(not a bad thing, in and of itself, but the flag was badly tattered and needed to be retired)

But good ol' 307333 enjoyed being in the company of the many heroic veterans of prior conflicts.

Later, we tried to find a notoriously easy cache not far from my home (martin's raceway, I believe it is called). Needless to say, I couldn't find it, AND I lost my cel phone in the process. We are on the way back there right now, and hope to log the cache AND find the cel phone.
Either way, we will be leaving today for Missouri where the TB will help all who read these pages to remember the heros we encounter in our daily lives.

Then, I plan to take the TB with me to visit my father, who is my biggest hero. He passed away several years ago but when I visit his grave I feel like I am visiting him.
Then, I'll find a cache close to there to drop off this truly heroic little TB.

As I understand it, the Heros travel bug wishes to meet and pay tribute to heros everywhere.

So, I took the TB with me when I had lunch with a dozen members of my Army Reserve unit today.

I was called to active duty very quickly after Sept 11, 2001 with a number of unit members, and many more were activated in January this year.

Last week, I ended my 2-year tour of duty at Ft McCoy Wisconsin and there are some people still on duty at my unit.

Many of them, like myself, have done something in the past when in uniform which makes them heros.

Many of them, one in particular I sat with at lunch, are seasoned police officers or firefighters who are everyday heros when wearing another uniform.

Many are heros because they are making a huge sacrifice either financially or by being geographically separated from their families, or in some cases both.

Then, the TB accompanied me as we visited another cache which was sort of in the neighborhood, the Castle Cache by bedfinders.

My next stop is at the local American Legion, where the Heros TB will make the acquaintance of some American Heros from the past. I also have a battered flag which I will turn over to the legion for proper disposal.

    sincerely,
    M England
    and Heros TB 307333

This is the first travel bug I have ever seen. When I picked up the Heroes TB I immediately drove up the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Highway, then took the TB to the Black River SG Cache. Both the Heroes and I enjoyed the beautiful view from the top of the Summit trail, even though it was 10 pm when we got there.
Then, I took the Hero TB with me to the Officer's Scenic Cache. We climbed the point together (quite a climb) and I left the TB to enjoy the view while I crawled around for 30 minutes trying to find the cache. I never found it but the fresh air and sky full of stars were much more enjoyable than the alternative (watching old movies and eating pizza). So, even though I didn't find the second cache, the Heros TB and I both paid homage to the Law Enforcement Officers of Wisconsin and we are both on to other caches.

I am in Chicago suburbs and going to be visit Missouri this weekend. Should I take the Hero's TB to visit some caches in MO then bring it BACK to Chicago, or should I leave it in a cache in Missouri?
My first thought was to get it as far as possible, but if it needs to go to NY maybe it would be better for it to visit MO then return to Chicago?
I am open to suggestions on this topic.
