About This Item

1

Mid to larg size coin with heft. 1.75 inches 3 mm thick silver. 375 coins minted. Available in other metal/enamel colors. The front has a background and rim are done in black enamel. The rim has raised script that reads "Florida geocacching association 2007". The center of the medallion has a "comapass Rose" done in local flora designs at its points. The background is black enamel and the metal is in  3-D. The reverse has a geocccaher hunting in palmetto bushes against black enamel. The black ename rim has raiseed metal script that reads "www.floridacaching.com" as well as "caching adventure".  I have to rank this as very good coin because of the crisp 3-D and the follow-through of the design.

Info on the coin: This is the second coin minted for Florida Geocaching Association (FGA) cachers and was created by Izonzo Karst in 2007. One side depicts a Florida compass rose; featuring a cypress slough, an oak hammock, a pine flatwoods, and of course, the state tree, the cabbage palm. On the other side is caching adventure - Photo taken at, "It's Good to Have Choices" ( GCYTPB - It's Good to Have Choices), which is now archived.

GCYTPB:  2 star difficulty 4.5 star terrain.................**The cache has been replaced with a large container tethered just beyond the oaks. You're hunting an ammo can tucked away and covered Florida style.

I found the original container in the ammo can at my 100th find, Further by IK. That was October 25, 2005...almost a year ago. I've included a photo of Bruno at that site in the gallery.

The cache is located along the Alafia River, in the Alafia River Corridor Nature Preserve. The trail head is located at the end of Old Welcome Road, approximately one mile south of Hwy 640. The Preserve is open during daylight hours, but the parking area is only open from 8:00-5:30. After 5:30, you'll have to park outside the gate.

You've got a choice of two ways to access this cache, the short way and the long way. Both methods are illustrated in the gallery photos. Be warned that these are spoilers. If you'd like to be surprised, don't look...but do bring a towel.

This cache has been featured on the new FGA coin

So many of my trackables have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals.  If you do not appove of this please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands.  Thanks.  LR

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.

We have here temperatures like in Florida, in any case the next 7 days, longer these forecasts are not to be trusted. So it is nice to sit in the house and to be allowed to discover this great coin collection. Thanks for sharing and greetings from 7EVENCachers
