Current Goal

"Find a Cure" bear is traveling around to help remind you to do routine breast cancer screening and early detection, or to have you remind your wife, your sister, your aunt, your mother, your daughter, your best friend or your grandmother to do theirs.

Don't wait until someone you love gets breast cancer... It may be too late.
Early detection is the key to survival.

About This Item

Find a cure Travel Bug

Breast cancer is the second leading cancer-related death among women in the United States (after lung cancer) and the *most frequently diagnosed* non-skin cancer among U.S. women. Finding breast cancer early is currently the best way to control it. Experts say when breast cancer is diagnosed early (stages I and II), five-year survival rates are nearly 95 percent.

In the United States, close to 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Breast cancer is also diagnosed in about 1,400 men each year.
About 2 million Americans currently battle breast cancer today.

All ages and races are affected: 1 in 9 white, 1 in 11 African-American, and 1 in 20 Hispanic and Asian women will develop breast cancer during their lifetimes.

On July 29, 1998, the Postmaster General William Henderson officially issued a postage stamp to help raise funds for breast cancer research.
This little stuffed pink bear (that is now a travel bug) was part of the original promotion of the stamp.

The Breast Cancer Research stamp is the first U.S. stamp in history to have its net proceeds above the cost of postage earmarked for research organizations. It has raised over 8 million dollars.

The stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Md. She has a personal interest in helping raise awareness about breast cancer since she is a survivor of the disease.
