About This Item

This TB is named for our first GPS, see the story below. BUT, this isn't it. The original Kenneth vanished somewhere Down Under, and was replaced with the Garmin mockup you see here. It's trying to find its way back to Garmin HQ.

(The original story: When we bought our first geocaching GPSr, a humble but reliable Sportrak, we named it Kenneth, after the song. Kenneth served us well for over 1600 caches, but one evening in Santa Cruz he lost his marbles, and he's never been the same since. So we're turning him loose as a travel bug to roam the geocaching world in search of his lost fix.

Here's the deal: if you can get Kenneth working again, he's yours! Just attach something else to the bug tag, and turn it loose again. Don't drive yourself nuts, though: We've tried every reset, reload, and diagnostic that's officially documented, not so officially listed on the net, or that we could discover. Once you get past that so-hopeful splash screen, he goes into an infinite reboot every few seconds. The diagnostic comes up with a sad little 'x' next to RTC, whatever that may be. Poor Kenneth! Maybe you'll be the one to restore his sanity.)

My what a huge one. Alas poor Kenneth, we're not terribly good at repairing you or finding a new TB hotel in Singapore large enough to house you!

I opened Kenneth up, cleaned his innards with isopropyl alcohol, let him dry and put him back together. I managed to get him to power on, an he even got a single satellite fix for a while. But then he keeps resetting over and over.
I am not convinced it is the rubber keypad that is the issue but something on the mainboard.

I sent him on his way again as I was not able to help further.
