Spotted it in the Washington Mill Cache. This TB has a special meaning for me and brings back many memories. From 1984 to 1987, I was an Infantryman assigned to the 5th Bn, 502nd Infantry, U.S. Army, Berlin Brigade. I lived 110 kilometers behind Enemy Lines (Democratic Deutsche Republic, formerly the DDR, East Germany), in the American sector of West Berlin. I participated in patrols on the American side of the wall and regularly looked across the wall at the East German Guards in their towers or boarder patrol cars. On numerous occasions I crossed the famed Check Point Charlie into the Soviet Sector of East Berlin and had the opportunity to see Russian soldiers up close and personal. I had the rare opportunity to serve as a guard in Spandau Prison, which held the famed Nazi war criminal, Rudolf Hess, who I also had the rare opportunity to see as well. I was in West Berlin when on 5 April 1986, Terrorists bombed the La Belle Disco, killing two fellow American soldiers and injuring many more. Berlin will always have a special place in my heart and I have many memories of the time I lived there. Thanks for sharing a very special piece of "The Wall."
