Mid size coin with heft. This coin has no enamel work and is all 3-D and metal texture. The front has lots and lots of detiled 3-D. It shows a cacher with mining gear and holding a GPS. There are trees and mountains in the background. The medallion is shiny metal with raised script. It reads "Exploring Alaska...One cache at a time". The reverse has the same shiny background metal textrue. The medallion shows a bear with 3-D work down to the gur. The sky has lines to indicate the aura borealus. The scrip is raised and says "WWW.Geocachingalaska.org". Excellent coin. -------- Coin info:
The front of the coin features the features ursus maritimus, the polar pear, prowling coastal sea ice under the aurora borealis (northern lights). The polar bear, like a good cacher, is adapted for life on a combination of land, sea, and ice. Polar bears are known to swim sixty miles offshore in pursuit of a find. Alaskan cachers get to see lots of auroras during all the available night caching during the 19-hour winter nights. The reverse side of the coin features a prospector seeking his cache safety tucked away on the taiga in the shadow of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The concept for this year's coin was developed by North Pole, Alaska, cacher PedalPushin.
The 1.5 inch/39 mm coins are struck in solid commercial bronze (85% copper, 15% zinc, also called brass), one ounce 0.999 silver, and one ounce 0.999 silver with 0.9999 fine gold relief, and one ounce solid 0.9999 fine gold, by the Alaska Mint in Anchorage, Alaska. The coins are all proof quality, produced by striking the planchets twice using a pressure of 160-180 tons with dies polished to a mirror finish . The edge of the silver and silver with gold relief coins is stamped "1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER." The edge of the gold coin is not stamped because the metal is too soft and the rest of the coin could be damaged during the stamping process.
-------So many of my trackables have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. KR

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.

What an exceptionally large, but especially beautiful collection of coins and travel bugs are in this life work / project
I admire the work of making copies of it and sending them around
You gave me the idea: I also made this week a copy of 10 coins to let them travel in the coming weeks
Very nice specimens and interesting pages
