To go where HMS Belfast was built (Harland and Wolff Shipyard, Belfast), otherwise all round the UK, near ports is good!
HMS Belfast was Built at Harland and Wolff Shipyard, in Belfast. She was Commissioned 5th August, 1939.
She is a Southampton Class Cruiser, of some 11,500 tons, capable of 32kts. She was armed with Twelve (4x3) 6-inch; eight (4x2) 4-inch HA/LA; twelve (6x2) Bofors AA guns.
She had a long and distinguished career, escorting the Arctic Convoys, and was instrumental in the sinking of the Scharnhorst at the Battle of the North Cape. Her last Offensive action was during the Korean War. She was Decommissioned in 1963.
She is now part of the Imperial War Museum, moored near Tower Bridge, and is a magnificent sight on the Thames, and well worth a visit if you come to London.
This TB is a mark of my affection for this beautiful ship, where I spent many happy hours as a little lad!
