Touncans can be found in Southern Mexico, Central, South American, and the Caribbean. They are forest-dwelling birds who only need to travel short distances. The colorful giant bill, which in some large species measure more than half the length of the body, is the hallmark of toucans. Researchers have discovered that the large bill of the toucan is a highly efficient thermoregulation system. They make their nests in tree hollows and holes excavated by other animals such as woodpeckers. Toucans are primarily frugivorous (fruit eating), but are opportunistically omnivorous and will take prey such as insects and small lizards.
This Exotic Toucan can often be found outside the forest areas, hiding in small dark holes and man made boxes. It migrates often and has no specific diet although it likes caches.
