Current Goal

Travel as far as possible.  This trackable and its subsequent proxy have traveled over 98,000 miles as of 15 September 2022. We're hoping it will make it to over 100,000 miles.  The original goal was to travel to England or Denmark, which has been fulfilled - see below**.

So many Geocoins and travel bugs go missing, and this was one of those.  We have decided to send out a proxy to keep this one alive.  We DO love to see how far they can travel, but so disappointing when they disappear.  We hope you'll keep this proxy moving for us.

**Made it to England where Becky's parents were from, then went to Copenhagen where Chris was born, then to the other Elsinore, in Denmark!! Thanks to The Bartlett Pair, for letting this one visit Copenhagen and getting it to Elsinore!  This can now travel the world, sharing the fun story of Chris and Becky.

About This Item

Chris and Becky

This is a tribute to Mrs lv2wj's great-grandparents. Rebecca Olena Sylvester was born in December 1869 and moved to Elsinore, Utah, as a young girl. Her father, Joshua Sylvester, was called as bishop of the local ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) in the little town of Elsinore, in central Utah. He was English, but was accepted by the mainly Danish population of Elsinore since he had two Danish wives. Young Chris Johnson (Hans Carl Christian Johansen) was another of those Danish immigrants who had come to Elsinore. He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and moved to Utah after joining the LDS Church. When Chris told his boss that he was going to marry Rebecca, his boss is reported to have said, “If you get Becky Sylvester to marry you, I’ll give you my best horse.” We can only hope he kept his word, as they did get married on April 30, 1890. Chris knew a good horse and eventually ran the livery stable in Elsinore, providing horses and “white top” buggies to salesmen who covered the southern part of Utah. The railroad went as far as Elsinore and then the buggies were hired to go further south to St. George. This travel bug commemorates the spirit of those early Mormon pioneers. Chris and Becky have made it to England and Denmark, and now just want to travel far and wide! Thanks for keeping them moving.  Our #3 son also married a Becky - so this trackable was also a small tribute to her and her beau!
