Current Goal

I would like to travel around the USA, and have my picture taken at small airports. When alive, I frequently flew between Humboldt, IA and Brainerd, MN. These were special airports to me, and therefore I would like to visit them often (i.e. more than once).

The ZWT Memorial Bug was washed away during a flood in New York, late July, 2006. Thank you to everyone who moved the bug along while it was active. Your help was much appreciated. RIP.

About This Item

ZWT Memorial Bug - FRONT

Zadoc Willam Thomas, a.k.a. "Bill" to friends and family, lived in Humboldt, IA from where he also managed his family's farms. He lived from 01/27/1922 to 11/02/1982. Bill was a pilot for over 30 years, and owned a total of three Cessnas. The blue one (N71720) pictured on the Bug was his second.

Bill often flew between his home in Humboldt, IA and his lake place in Brainerd, MN. It would be nice to get a picture of Bill with as many different people as possible at both of these airports.

Bill's blue plane appears to be still flying, but now out of Peoria, IL (check it out). His third plane is apparently still hangered in Humboldt, IA (check it out). MAJOR BRAGGING RIGHTS to the first person to upload a picture of Bill with either one of his old planes. It would be very cool to see them reunited.

Likewise, MODEST BRAGGING RIGHTS to the first person to upload a picture of Bill in front of the sign at the Humboldt, IA airport. SEMI-MODEST BRAGGING RIGHTS to the first person to upload a picture of Bill at the Brainerd, MN airport. Also, pictures of Bill in actual flight would deserve some SERIOUS PRAISE. :)

Thank you for helping Bill get airborne again. His family looks forward to tracking his "flights" and viewing the (hopefully) many pictures to be posted.

👍

Grabbed the ZWT Memorial Bug from Loantaka Brook #1 cache. I'll do my best to take this bug to nearby small airports.. (hmm, how do I figure out if an airport is class 'D' or less??..)

Stopped by while in town getting trained in a new airplane at SimCom. I figured since I work at a Class D airport, I could move this guy along.

  • Bill at LYH This is a Class D airport in Virginia.
