About This Item

The Bone Travel Bug

Unfortunately this is another CC TB that has come up missing. If you have it please log it and get it going. Chances are that will never happen. This again proves the fact that high quality TBs like this one will eventually be stolen by a low quality cacher somewhere. I have had MOST of my 38 TBs stolen, all high quality items, not crap. Like so many others, I will leave caching someday due to these dishonest, selfish attitudes exhibited by so many.

What a shame. The B-1 Lancer, known affectionately and unaffectionately by its crews as "The Bone," has been pretty much a failure. With its on-again, off-again checkered and controversial development history, the B-1 finally was rushed to frontline service after winning a sizeable procurement authorization.

Originally conceived as a deep interdiction high speed bomber able to penetrate the Soviet Union, the B-1 has fallen well short of expectations. Plagued with engine problems, namely a complete inability to withstand any icing conditions, the Bone was more or less relegated to backline service. And avionics problems leading to low mission reliability continue to hamper this weapon system even today. Tsk tsk. But there is an upside!

Despite weapon system drawbacks, CoolCache maintains that there is no finer or impressive flyer in the overhead pattern... that is doing practice approach and landings at an airfield. With a thunderous roar from its afterburners the handsome B-1 will literally rock your world. And despite its large size, the Bone can "pull closed" with the best of them, no doubt dropping a few jaws in the process. Watching this plane doing an afterburner pull up in the pattern is truly a sight to behold. So impressive is it that the B-1 takes
top airshow honors in my book. As weapon, ok it sucks. As an airshow performer there's none better! See it once and you'll see what I mean!

If you do take pictures please say "Pics" somewhere in your log so I can check them out and send you a thanks!

** Do not place in PUZZLE, MULTI, or REMOTE caches... my TBs have lost many months of travel in these. Also please no EVENT caches either.

The Bone flew a mission with the Utah Air National Guard today in Salt Lake City, Utah. He loved hanging out with the guys and flying formation with the KC-135s there. He's a big believer in the saying, "aint no kickin' ass without tanker gas!" Onto other adventures...
