Collected Tower Newmarch TB. Now gone in search of castles!

    • Wallingford Castle, Oxfordshire I am in front of the Queen's Tower, Wallingford Castle; the only piece of masonry remaining of the curtain wall. William the Conqueror ordered the castle's construction and from Henry II's reign it became a royal residence. Oliver Cromwell ordered its demolition after the end of the English Civil War.
    • Oxford Castle Mound I promise I am in the right hand of the lady in the picture. I had a great time at Oxford Castle. The mound or 'motte' is all that remains (above ground) of the Norman 'motte and bailey' castle built in 1071 by Robert d'Oilly. The castle site has recently been re-developed and was opened by The Queen on Friday 5 May 2006.
