The south shore of PEI is one of the largest ‘red sands’ areas in Canada, possibly the world. It is here where the Confederation Bridge, built in 1997; welcomes over a million visitors per year to the island. This Northumberland Strait crossing is an important link in the transportation system of PEI and is located in a beautiful red sands area on the south shore of PEI. The PEI 2008 coin is designed to help spread the word about the bridge’s beauty and the red sands setting and to promote tourism in the region. Learn more at www.geocachingpei.com.
