About This Item

Phil's Phriend

This is a Groundspeak microcache cylinder attached to a TB tag. It lives on Phil's keychain. You have to find Phil to get the tracking number, then you can grab the bug. While you're there, sign the log in the cache. The TB is usually around northern Delaware, but could be seen in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, PA, West Virginia, NYC, Miami, Hong Kong, Madrid, Naples, or any one of a bunch of other cities. Better check with Phil....

Found last night while hiking in the storms.

Cache log:
Ah, yes, I love thunderstorms! Did a 6.7 click loop from Pike Creek, across Fox Den, to this cache, then a large loop back down the Lanape trail to the truck. Found without too much trouble. Nice hide, Mike! TNLNSL, TFTC.

The exciting part was on the return loop along the Lenape trail. It started raining and thundering. It actually got quite wild, and at one point the trail crosses a rdigeline. As I approachec the ridge, I was looking up to my left thinking, "I'm getting a little too close to the top of the ridge for comfort, maybe I should just hang out in a gully until the strom passes." A couple hundred meteres later, I smelled something funny and instinctively took a knee and ducked my head. The flash and the thunder happened at the same instant, and instead of cold blue like most lightning, I saw yellow orange and felt it through the ground. Yeah. That was a close oen. Be careful out there, particularly if you like night caching in thunderstorms!

  • Gonna storm....

Found on a little night cache run for medicinal de-stressing. Couldn't get the dang thing open, so I couldn't sign the log. I took a picture of the cache if the owner needs proof that I really did find it, though! 🙂
