Erik the Red, was banished from Jaeren, Norway (in the vicinity of Stavanger) after killing a man under questionable circumstances. He went to Iceland. After a while he was involved in another killing under questionabe circumstances and was yet again banished. He then discovered Greenland. He was Leif Erikssen's father.
