Current Goal

Mission target is :Statue of liberty, Liberty Island, New York
I would be very pleased, if the Bug, after he has reached his destination, will continue his journey to the huge and amazing forests and meadows in Canada. I'm dreaming of these landscapes since years !

Ziel ist :Freiheitsstatue,Liberty Island,New York

About This Item

English Description

Everybody knows that the Original TravelBug is coined on a soldier identification tag. The shape of the US-Dogtag was invented far before WW II. And like the US-Dogtag the shape of the German-Dogtag has survived all these many decades.
In the WW I the datas of the soldier were partly carried in a small, bolted tube around the neck, before in the WW II the current shape was established.

The normal coinage contains 'GE' for 'Germany', one for the group of blood, the denomination and a coinage (xxxxxx-y-zzzzz) with date of birth (xxxxxx), e.g. 25(.)10(.)78, the first letter of the surname (y) as well as a number (zzzzz), which stands in connection with the others to the clear identification of the soldier.

If there are some other question about German Dogtags or maybe about the German Army, mail me over the GeoCaching.com network !

Please take care of the bug,
thxxx & greetings from Germany,

'derStefan' (theSteve)

Deutsche Beschreibung

'derStefan'

Long hike for our 7 and 9 yr old girls but they enjoyed the hike and we enjoyed that they were tired enough out to fall asleep quickly that night.
