Benten travels the world to bring music and wealth to all she meets.
Benten is the only female deity among the Shichifukujin (the seven lucky gods of Japan). She represents the artistic muses (eloquence, music, art, literature, wisdom and water). Such artistic skills and wisdom are thought to lead to prosperity. Benten carries a biwa (Japanese mandolin), and is sometimes accompanied by a sea serpent or snake.
