Current Goal

The Global Studies class at Turkey Valley High School in northeast Iowa would like their travel bug to travel to as many places as possible. They want to learn more about the United States/world through their TB's photos and information about its travels.

Ah Iowa... the birthplace of James T Kirk. I just had to take this little TB away with me as I am a bit of a Trekkie. Since picking up this TB I have taken the time to look up Iowa on the map to find out where it actually is, apart from "in the middle somewhere" which is all I knew before. And, I have just discovered that John Wayne is from Iowa too. Cool, I also love Westerns!!

Finally!! I dropped the TB off at my first-ever geocaching event, which I enjoyed thoroughly. The event was held in a Bulbourne pub (the Grand Junction Arms) on the edge of the Grand Union Canal. The approximately 145-mile canal links London and Birmingham and dates from 1805...quite youthful by English standards. There are about 160 locks along the way, so going by water is a leisurely proposition. (By the way, the first British canals probably were constructed by the Romans as irrigation canals or short connecting spurs between navigable rivers.)

This guy's a long way from home, although a herd of cows was guarding the cache, so he probably felt quite comfortable!! Will place at another interesting cache soon.
