Current Goal

To travel to Lewis & Clark cache #2 in St. Louis and meet up there with William Clark.

IMPORTANT: If you see Lewis in this cache without Clark or vice-versa, PLEASE do not move one along without the other. When they have both reached Lewis & Clark #2, please link up the rings on their TB tags so they can travel together from now on. Thanks.

About This Item

2003 is the 200th anniversary of the Lewis & Clark expedition. In honor of that journey I am sending off two travel-bug counterparts of the expedition's original leaders to retrace their steps. Just as in 1803, Meriwether Lewis is leaving from Washington, DC and William Clark is leaving from Clarksburg, Indiana, just across the Ohio River from Louisville. The two travelers are to meet in St. Louis (in this case, in the Lewis and Clark cache just across the river) and from there travel to find headwaters of the Missouri River, then over the Rockies and down the Columbia River to the Pacific. After that, back to the Lewis & Clark cache in St. Louis.

Because travel bugs usually move more slowly than people, even 19th-century people with non-motorized rafts,
I am giving these travel bugs a head start in 2002 in hopes that they can complete their journey by 2006, the anniversary of Lewis and Clark's return to St. Louis. There is no need to follow the route of the original expedition, but please try to keep the bugs moving in the right general direction. Photos are always welcome.

Welcome to the Bitteroot Valley of Montana, Meriwether Lewis. My sister BitterrootCash brought you and William Clark back from a Geocaching event in LaQuinta, Califonia. I think that you love spring in Montana--though there is still snow in the mountains, you'll love the fresh mountain air.

Will move it eastward shortly. Have a friend going to St Louis (some baseball game going on that he is interested in), but he is not a cacher. Could give him a crash course I guess. :)>

Peace
