Current Goal

The goal for this travel bug is to collect high school memories.

About This Item

To say it straight, high school pretty much sucked for me. Very few of the warm memories I have from that time have anything to do with what went on inside the walls of my alma mater, Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Florida. This travel bug is my class ring. I bought it because I thought I was supposed to and never wore it because it didn't fit, and frankly, I had no feeling of affiliation with that institution. I guess I was more of a Freaks and Geeks type.

The goal for this TB is to gather a few of your high school memories. They can be good ones, or bad ones that helped make you better in some way. It would be great if this TB could make it to a prom or reunion since I never have.

Just for the record, the ring has virtually no monetary value since it's made of "lustrium" and simulated faux saphirescent blue fakium. (So stealing it would be really lame and unprofitable.)

When you log this TB, please share a little about your high school experience that will enlighten or at least entertain the rest of us geocaching geeks.

Thanks,
Brad

High School was a little odd for me. I went to Ashland (MA) high my freshman year, and then to Wayland High my sophomore and part of my junior year. I then dropped out and went to work in th food service industry. Big mistake. Yes, it was a girl :).

In the fall of 1978 I went back to school at Minuteman Regional Vocational/Technical School in Lexington, MA, where I studied Data Processing. I was always a computer geek, since 7th grade.

I had been very active in music in school up until Minuteman, which had no music program at the time, so that was kind of a shock.

Despite the chemical abuse I subjected myself to, I succeeded in graduating, and immediately went to work for Digital Equipment Corp where I worked for the next 18 1/2 years. Shameless plug: if anyone wants a talented, experienced system/network admin in Northern Worcester County, hire me.

High School was divided roughly into the jocks/brains/heads trichotomy and I rode the line between brains and heads. I never went to any dances or other social events, and never had a gf in school. Poor me, wah.

I did survive, however. To anyone still in High School: Take it seriously, and have fun too. Don''t do drugs. Don''t smoke. You''ve heard it before, but now I''m telling you with the benefit of 23 years hindsight.

Nice travel bug. My high school days were split between California and Ohio. Calif. was definaletly the place to be as a teenager. We were at the beach during the day and Hollywood at night. Our son is down from New Hampshire, first time geocaching. He is going to place it in a cache in N.H. So it is leaving the state of Florida YEAH!
