About This Item

Styracosaurus # 1

Styracosaurus was a dinosaur that walked on four short legs. This large plant-eater had a six-spiked frill projecting from the back of its skull. It also had an upward-pointing horn on its nose (2 feet (60 cm) long and 6 inches (15 cm) wide), and two small horns above its eyes. These spikes and the horn probably provided protection from predators, and were possibly used in mating rituals and rivalry. It had a short, thick, pointed tail, a large, bulky body, a large skull and a beak. Styracosaurus hatched from eggs. Styracosaurus was about 18 feet (5 m) long, 6 feet (1.8 m) tall, and weighed up to 3 tons. Styracosaurus lived in the late Cretaceous period, about 77-70 million years ago. It was among the last of the dinosaur species to evolve before the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction 65 million years ago. Styracosaurus was named in 1913 by L. M. Lambe from a fossil found near Alberta, Canada. Fossils have been found in the USA and Canada. A bonebed of about 100 Styracosaurus fossils was found in Arizona, USA, indicating that they travelled in herds.

Dropped in "Bushed" Dino Cache. This the perfect cache for this TB. I have set the bar for dino pictures with this TB and challenge anyone to do as well. Have a great journey Styracosaurus #1.

Picked this guy up while on vacation with my family on Cape Cod. My 8 year old son wanted to keep it as a trade item but I told him it was a TB and he reluctantly gave up on the idea. I am going to Colorado tomorrow for a week and will bring Styracosaurs back home.

Hello Larsharley - your TB was just passed on to me and I see it got delayed quite a bit. Sorry about that but Styracosaurus is still in great shape and I will be getting back into circulation to continue it's adventures. Happy trails

Had decided I wasn't going to retrieve the TB, but changed mind and went back and got it. It's been there for nearly 3 months and has made a huge detour. I might be able to get him back on mission in January, but I might decide to extend the detour. Either way, it would have been a long winter atop Mayberry Hill.
