Ko the hiking koi

The mission of Ko the hiking koi is to travel from cache to cache and to end up in the district of Niigata, Japan, the birthplace of the kois! Please take some pictures along the way.

Het doel van Ko de reizende koi is om van cache naar cache te trekken. Uiteindelijk wil hij naar het district Niigata in Japan, waar alle koi's oorspronkelijk vandaan komen. Foto's van de plaatsen waar hij langskomt zouden leuk zijn!
Ko de reizende koi wil graag af en toe zwemmen dus plaats hem aub in een cache in de buurt van water.

Koi carps are born in Japan and then shipped all over the world to end up in the ponds of Koi enthusiasts. This koi came to the Netherlands with a pack of koi food and, although there's plenty of water to swim in Holland, he would still like to go back to Japan.

Ko the hiking koi has the distinct color pattern of a 'kohaku" - this is a red and white koi which is one of the oldest color schemes on koi carps. It was first described around the 1890's. Only recently the kois have become popular around the world and now they are flown around the world to hobbyists. The best quality kois however are still only bred in Japan!

Even if you like Ko the hiking koi very much, please don't keep him but help him on his way to Japan. If you want a miniature koi like Ko for yourself, go to your nearest koi dealer or garden center and buy a bag of koi food of a well-known Japanese koifood brand (some of the bags carry a similar koi like Ko the hiking koi as a promotion item on them).

Koi karpers worden geboren in Japan en over de hele wereld getransporteerd, naar de vijvers van koi entousiastelingen. Deze miniatuur koi is naar Nederland gekomen op een pak koi voer. En hoewel er genoeg zwemwater in Nederland is, wil hij toch graag terug naar Japan.

Ko de reizende koi heeft het kleurenpatroon van een "kohaku" - dit is een rood met witte koi die één van de oudste kleurvarieteiten is. Deze kleuren zijn voor het eerst beschreven rond 1890, pas recent zijn ze overal ter wereld populair geworden en vliegen ze vanuit Japan de hele wereld over. Ook al worden er tegenwoordig ook volop kois gekweekt in Israel en Europa, de mooiste (en duurste!) komen nog steeds uit Japan.

Hou Ko de reizende koi alstublieft niet voor u zelf maar help hem op zijn reis naar Japan door hem weer in een andere cache "uit te zetten". Als u net zo'n miniatuur koi karper voor uzelf wilt hebben, ga dan naar een tuincentrum of koiwinkel en kijk op de zakken van een bekend Japans koivoer merk. Daar zitten ze namelijk als promotie items bij.
