  • NVgold visits the Grand Hotel. Yup, I spent the weekend in this spectacularly beautiful place and my traveling assistant even let me spend at night at the Grand Hotel, in the "Barbara Bush Suite." She is NOT a high roller, but a good friend of hers won a night at "The Grand" in a conference raffle drawing!
  • Humble Temporary Lodging My travel assistant got me out of this dump and moved me into The Grand Hotel!! What a classy broad!
  • Transportation on Mackinac Island My travel assistant and her friend introduced me to these magnificent draft horses that carry people and luggage around this quaint Island, which is lost "Somewhere in Time."
  • Ferry Ride to Mackinac Island I had a nice, easy ferry ride to the Island and a wonderful view of what my travel assistant insists is the most beautiful bridge in the world---as lovely as the Golden Gate is, she is prejudiced in favor of this marvel of Northern Michigan.
  • Mackinaw City visit--lighthouse. I enjoyed my visit to Mackinaw City and especially to this newly refurbished--and operational--lighthouse, the McGulpin Point Lighthouse.
  • McGulpin Point Lighthouse Beach This spot has a great view of the Mighty Mac, AKA "Big Mac," which is how Michiganders refer to the Mackinaw Bridge, with affection and awe mixed with admiration and respect for the engineers and workers who created this wonder. My travel assistant is a northern Michigan native of, aaaaah, mature years, who has crossed the Bridge hundreds of times, if not thousands, and still never fails to feel "tingly" when she sees it from afar and loves crossing it.
