To travel everywhere, gathering stories on orienteering events and treasure hunts leading to or different from geocaching.
In September of 2007 we attended the annual Barebones Orienteering Event held in Kananaskis Country west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The kids had fun learning their compass points and racing from point to point. It was a big step up from their birthday party treasure hunts, which usually included a two-mile hike across rural terrain on our farm. So when we discovered Geocaching, we found all of our hobbies combined. Today we are having another birthday party treasure hunt to mark flying A's 14th birthday, this time replacing the compass with a GPS. His friends, some geocachers, some newbies, will get to hunt unofficial caches I have set for the day, with the goal of setting one official cache, the first for flying A. The Barebones woodcut used as a hitchhiker for the TB was a prize in the Barebones orienteering event, and is a reminder that geocaching and cito are a part of the bare bones of our environment.
