Current Goal

As the name implies, this travel bug's mission is to try and make it around the world!! Thanks for assisting in accomplishing this goal!

About This Item

You are either holding an obsolete, 10+ year old Magellan GPS (main) that was not accurate
enough for geocaching, much less anything else....OR ....

...............(MAIN)................................(COPY)...................

you are holding GeoMagellan's entrails (copy)!!
What better use for this old school gps than to convert it into a couple of travel bugs!!
These TBs are on a very difficult mission. Their goal is to circumnavigate the globe, just as the great explorer, Ferdinand Magellan, did.

NOTE: If you can't assist in this goal, please leave it for
someone to find who can! Please specify "main" or "copy" when you log in! Please read an important note in the initial log entry. Thanks!

Ferdinand Magellan

Portuguese maritime explorer

Born Spring 1480 Sabrosa, Portugal
Died April 27, 1521 Cebu, Philippines
Other names pt: Fernão de Magalhães
es: (F/H)ernando de Magallanes Known for Captained the first
circumnavigational expedition; located the Magellanic Straits.

Ferdinand Magellan (Portuguese: Fernão de Magalhães,
(Spring 1480 – April 27,1521,
Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines) was a Portuguese maritime
explorer who, while in the service of the Spanish Crown, tried to
find a westward route to the Spice Islands of Indonesia. This was
the first successful attempt to circumnavigate the Earth in
history. Although he did not complete the entire voyage (he was
killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines) fellow
Basque-navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano completed the final westward
voyage. As Magellan traveled farther west than the Spice Islands,
which he had visited on earlier voyages from the west, he became
one of the first individuals to cross all the meridians of the
globe. He was the first person to lead an expedition sailing
westward from Europe to Asia and to cross the Pacific Ocean.
Magellan should also be recognized as the first explorer to enter
the Pacific from the eponymous Strait of Magellan, which he
discovered. He is also remembered as the first European to reach
the archipelago of what is now known as the Philippines, which was
unknown to the western world before his landing. Arab traders had
established commerce within the archipelago centuries earlier.
Of the 237 men who set out on five ships to circumnavigate the
earth, only 18 completed the circumnavigation of the globe and
managed to return to Spain in 1522.[1][2] They were led by a Basque
Juan Sebastián Elcano, who took over command of the expedition
after Magellan's death. 17 other men arrived later in Spain, 12 men
captured by the Portugueses in Cape Verde some weeks later, and in
1525/1526 5 survivors of the Trinidad.

Not sure I can count this is "found" technically or not, but I have seen it. GeoMagellan is in Baghdad currently, and the plan is to drop it in a large enough cache to accomodate it. Otherwise some soon to be leaving cachers may need to mule it forward on its journey. Thanks for the bug. Interesting design.

              Congratulations!

If you are reading this, then you are one of two FTFs!! When you get a trackable dog tag, they send you 2. I don't know why, but I decided to use both of them to increase the odds of success!
The "main" TB was gutted so that the battery compartment could be used to house a message. This one was sent to my nephew serving in Iraq. God Bless Our Troops.
The "copy" TB is the internal components encased in clear resin. Pretty cool to see what the inside of a gps looks like...especially the antenna. This one is starting his journey in California somewhere.

Please find good caches to drop these off, and hopefully they will provide years of enjoyment for everyone! Attach a picture of the view!

***NOTE: I think there will be a problem with this log's ability to handle 2 bugs with the same number! If you pick one up or drop one off, and can't log it in, just log a note. I guess we will cross that bridge later!
