About This Item

Me and my big buddies

In June 2008 I was planning a trip to Igloolik, Nunavut (from my home in Ottawa), and was making arrangements to take a couple of acoustic guitars to the high-school there. Geocacher RitchieD caught wind of my plan, and he and his partner, Robyn, offered to fund a third guitar. All three were successfully transported to Igloolik, much to the delight of the students! RitchieD gave me this coin when we met to finalize the deal. There it is in the photo, with its three big buddies.


This coin celebrates Robyn and Duncan's generosity. Thank you!

Its lifelong journey began with a quick dip in Gord's Cache, in the awesome Stony Swamp Conservation Area in Ottawa, Canada.

For several days the coin slept near the Stadion St. Jakob in Basel, where some concerts were held (Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, etc.). But then the guitar goes back to Germany.

I went to a conference (ICAPS2011) in Freiburg, Germany but I was not sure I would have the time to go caching, lest not find a rocky cache for this coin. Luckily a dinner was arranged for us at the schlossbergrestaurant Dattler, and I convinced a pack of guys to come caching with me, so that we could drop off this coin. A couple of us was dressed up in suits, and had really bad trekking shoes on, but we made it.
