Dies ist die Kompassrosenmünze von 2008. AUf der Vorderseite ist ein Kompass einer portugiesischen Karte von 1539, die die Küstenlinie Südamerikas zeigt. Die Rückseite zeigt Magellans Schiff "Victoria", das die Welt umsegelte zwischen 1519-1522. Dahinter erkennt man das Sternbild "Stern des Südens", das wichtig war für die Navigation auf der Südhalbkugel. Magellan segelte von Spanien an der Küste Südamerikas entlang zu den Philippinen, wo er bei einem Konflikt mit den Eingeborenen umkam. Sein Ziel war, eine neue Route zu den Gewürzinseln zu finden und wieder zurück. Sein STeuermann übernahm das Schiff nach Magellans Tod und beschloss, über den indischen Ozean und Afrika zurück zu segeln, so dass eine Erdumseglung daraus wurde. Die Victoria war das einzige von 5 Schiffen, das wieder zurückkam.
This is the 2008 compass rose geocoin. On the front it shows the compass of a Potuguese map from 1539 that depicts the South American coastline. The back shows Magellan's ship "Victoria" which sailed around the world 1510-1522. Behind the ship you can see the constellation "Southern STar" which was essential for navigating the Southern hemisphere. Magellan sailed from Spain along the South American coastline to the Phillippines where he died in a tribal conflict. His goal was to find a new route to the Spice islands and back again. His Spanish Navigator sailed the ship back  across the Indian Ocean and around Africa which made it a complete journey. The "Victoria" was the only one of 5 ships to make it.
