2/7/18-Success!! The little bus made it to the east end of Hwy 50 in Ocean City, in a little over 6 years! But read on, it practically made the trip TWICE within that time. So the new goal is to get back on the road and make it to Sacramento, CA, where I can retreive it and put it in my geocaching museum.
______
This little bus coin, along with 2 others just like it, is competing to be the first to travel the length of its designated highway, and return to Sacramento. In this case, it should move along US 50, or nearby, as it makes its way to Maryland. We like to travel in our motorhome, and thought these little guys might help us re-live some of our travels, or discover new places to go. When you find it, please look to see which way it's going, and move it along. When it reaches Ocean City, MD, please turn it around and start it back to Sacramento. Game on, cachers!
Note: On Oct 3, 2011 this little coin reappeared in a cache about 4 miles from the US50 freeway - back in Sacramento! In the ensuing 2 years it has traveled about 7000 miles through California, Nevada and Arizona, and was even taken to a cache in Pennsylvania, but not dropped there! So it almost made it to its goal of reaching Ocean City, MD. So it's starting over, folks. Let's try again to get it back East. BTW, the other 2 coins in this "competition" have gone missing. One made it to Oregon, where its cache was archived, and the other traveled quite a way through several states and disappeared just east of Salt Lake City. Disappointing, for sure, but let's keep trying with this one.
Sacramento is near home base for us, and since we enjoy traveling in our motorhome, choosing this little bus to do some imaginary traveling for us was pretty easy. We weren't caching when the GeoWoodstock event of 2008 was held about 20 miles from home, but couldn't resist the van-motorhome connection. We have actually driven all of US 50 west of Pueblo, CO, so help this little guy see the rest of it. Did you know stretches of US 50 are called "the loneliest road in the US," or that there is a road sign in West Sacramento listing the mileage to Ocean City, MD, the other end of the highway?. I'll get a photo of the sign and add it to the gallery. Also, it would be good to see the coin in photos of significant landmarks along the way, especially the Sacramento sign in Ocean City! May you all have happy and safe travels.
