Current Goal

This TB would like to:

1. Travel from cache to cache, observing and enjoying things in their natural state, whatever that may entail!

2. Hopefully, provide a little bit of a Zen moment to the cachers who help him move along.

3. Eventually make it to China! Why not? Anything is possible, right?

4. Not to be forced into any round holes.

About This Item

The Uncarved Block

This TB was inspired by the very wise book "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff, and by the wonderfully simple bear that is the central figure of the book. The Uncarved Block - or P'u - is a basic principle of Taoism, and is best explained simply by this quote from that awesome book:

"...the principle of the Uncarved Block is that things in their original simplicity contain their own natural power, power that is easily spoiled and lost when that simplicity is changed."

And this one also:

"This basic Taoist principle applies not only to things in their natural beauty and function, but to people as well."

In other words, square pegs should not be asked to fit into round holes! Please take lots of pictures!

Hmm .... thinking ... thinking ... thinking.

Travel from cache to cache, observing and enjoying things in their natural state, whatever that may entail!

I discovered this one back in March in the hands of the owner. I kept forgetting to log it mostly because I was trying to figure out something clever to say. Obviously the lesson is to just keep it simple (stupid). It was really cool to see how much this one traveled and the state to state release and catch. Thanks for sharing Spoon!

Ha! I finally did catch up with The Uncarved Block! I posted but a note back in December 27, 2005 when it stayed at the Reading is FUN!(damental) cache for a little while. Now, I can actually Grab It. It's been quite a few years and quite a few miles.

Isn't it funny how some of them come back to you without even trying? Of course the flip-side are the ones that go missing after traveling to one or two caches...

Is there a Zen lesson in here?

 • It was cold. But, that must have been the way it was meant to be today.
