Coin info: Personal coin for geocacher Lapu-Lapu from Baden-Württemberg.
The geocoin is 45 x 35 x 3 mm in size. On the obverse, Lapu-Lapu is seen standing on his monument in Lapu-Lapu City on the Philippine island of Mactan. In the green border is the name at the top, on the left as a reminder a year in which the coin designer lived in the Philippines and on the right the year of the coin release.
On the back you can see the nickname of the cacher, his country of origin, the year of the beginning of his cacher career and the coordinates of his home center. The official Groundspeak logo and tracking code can be found in the lower part of the back.
The coin was first released on April 11, 2008 and was minted in the editions Antique Gold, Antique Silver, TwoTone Antique Gold/Silver, Black Nickel (LE75), Antique Copper (XLE15, trade only) and TwoTone Antique Copper/Nickel (XLE10, trade only).
The Lapu-Lapu Geocoin in Antique Gold comes from the cacher of the same name from Baden-Württemberg, who released it together with the GeocoinShop.
Lapu-Lapu is the name of the leader of a Filipino native tribe who is credited with killing the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan on the Philippine island of Mactan on April 27, 1521. Magellan sailed under the Spanish flag to conquer colonies. Lapu-Lapu is thus generally regarded as the first Filipino freedom hero.
The coin designer gave himself this special nickname because he lived and worked in the Philippines in 1997 and 1998 and got to know this beautiful country with friendly people in those years.
Lapu-Lapu is considered one of the greatest figures of ancient Philippine history. On the morning of April 27, 1521, Lapu-Lapu led aproximately 1,500 Mactan warriors armed with spears, kampilan and kalasag, in a battle against 49 Christian soldiers led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. In what would later be known as the Battle of Mactan, Magellan and several of his men were killed
So many of my trackable have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher that understands. Thanks. AR
