The "Giant Can o' Beans" (GCOB) is a 37" tall by 24" wide mocked up version of the can of beans – actually a can of Blackeye Peas - that were included in the "Original Stash" by Dave Ulmer.
The GCOB was created for the Cache the Stash Challenge (CtSC) which is a six-community coin challenge created by Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory - https://mthoodterritory.com and Amygems to help celebrate 15 years of geocaching. For the CtSC, Western Family Foods created a 36" by 73"version of the "vintage label" of their blackeye peas since there is now a newer label for this product. The GCOB served as Challenge co-mascot along with Sandy the Bigfoot (PB9BZB).
In addition helping create the GCOB, Western Family also did a limited run of 200 "vintage cans" which were given away during the event.
The CtSC kicked off Saturday, Aug. 8th, 2015 at the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Oregon City, Oregon. The six communities involved in the challenge are Sandy, Canby, West Linn, Damascus, Estacada and North Clackamas. Five hundred (500 coins) were minted for each of these communities. All six of the coins fit together to form a snazzy puzzle cube.
