Rick's Stick

To travel to various caches and events - with Rick.

Rick's Stick started out as an ordinary Boy Scout hiking staff, which was given to Rick by the scouts of Troop 74 in Vienna MO (he was their Asst Scoutmaster) when he moved to Germany in 2003. Rick used it at various hikes and Volksmarches in Germany and surrounding countries, including the fabled Jarvis Family Trek Across Liechtenstein. Along the way, the Stick acquired hiking staff medallions from Germany, France, Poland, Liechtenstein, and the Czech Republic.

Upon returning to the USA in 2006, Rick and Joy discovered geocaching. Rick's Stick has accompanied them on many caching adventures. It comes in handy not only for hiking and climbing assistance, (and once even a 2-mile river wading expedition), but also for poking around for caches in places where we don't necessarily want to stick our hands!

Rick's Stick now sports an official Geocaching.com hiking staff medallion, as well as a dogtag that commemorates our 1000th find in Nov 2008 at the Pioneer cache in Paddy Creek Wilderness (Jan'11- lost in action at Jefferson Barracks, MO). Hopefully its collection of medallions from the USA will continue to grow...

Rick's Stick is pretty much a ceremonial stick nowadays - it's too easy to tear off the medallions while crashing through the brush!  Rick now employs another, more utilitarian staff for general caching and hiking use!
